May 29-31, 1993: Memorial Day Weekend

Mom and I headed up to the cabin in Baldwin.   We waited for the Gonyos to come, but they were late, so we decided to go to downtown Baldwin shopping.    We visited Peggy Katt at her antique store. Her granddaughter, Nicole, had mono and was here for the weekend.    When we got back to the cabin, the Gonyos had arrived.      I told Wendy and Joy I really liked Jase and would give him three sons.   We were all laughing.

On Sunday, we went to mass at St. Anns in Baldwin.    The church was crowded.    After church, we went to Ludington to go shopping.    We had lunch at a Greek restaurant.    Joy bought a t-shirt that said "I want it all".      Then, we went to Pentwater to do some more shopping.

Peggy and Nicole came up to the cabin for a visit after dinner.

On Monday, mom and I left and headed up to the gravestone to put flowers down.

May 28, 1993: Senior Breakfast/Last Day of High School

We had our Senior Breakfast on our last day of high school.   Sue and I were in love with Chris Papp.     We were so happy to get his senior picture and name card.    On the back of the card was an invitation to Chris's open house.  Of course, we had to go to that.    In Spanish class, Sue and I got a picture taken with Chris Papp.

After school, Molly and I went cruising up to Silver Lake.

My friend Patty Kmiecik turned 40 years old today. I brought over a birthday card for her after school.

May 27, 1993: Mr. Walker's Advice

In Marketing class, Mr. Walker said he thought I'd be good as a sales representative.  In his opinion, being a sales representative required alot of time missed from home, but did give you a good income.

I took Molly Piersma, Sue Arnouts, and Kara Filius to the Senior Banquet held at Mona Lake Boat Club.  We traded senior pictures.    The announcement of mock elections took place.   Eric Anderson got Baby Face.    When class gossiper was announced, my whole table pointed at me.  Mandy Rozycki got that one.

Sue and I had dinner at Bill Knapps.

May 21, 1993: Senior Awards & Baccalaureate Practice

Practiced for senior awards assembly.    Mr. Reed gave out the staff scholarship awards.   Four people got the $500 checks.    I got one of those checks.   I couldn't believe it!  Mr. Reed shook my hand as he gave me the check.

In 4th hour, Keith Bolema took pictures of all of us.

My mom and I went to Ponderosa for dinner. Jayme Whitby was our waitress. She said she was moving to Fullerton, California in August.  Her sister was having a baby in December.

May 10, 1993: Michigan’s Adventure for Physics in the Park

Our physics class went to Michigan’s Adventure for the day. I went with Jennifer Krybez, Sue Quakelaar, Leah Engle, Cheli Sibley, and Gretta Bugee on the rides.
When we were at the Falling Star, Chris Papp was waiting in line next and kept watching my way while I was on the ride. He sat in the back left hand side as you look at the ride. He wore black Umbro shorts like me.

I went on the Wolverine Wildcat. Chris Porter had never been on a roller coaster until he went on the Wolverine Wildcat. I went on the log ride plenty of times. We were all soaked when we got off. I had a cheeseburger for lunch. Then, I went on the flying trapeze. Tim Miedona, Eric Anderson, John DeWeerd, and Bob Hunt were on the ride with us.

Gretta and I went on the corkscrew.

I went on the Thunderbolt with my group. Cheli Sibley was on the ride. She was a lot of fun.

We all went on the log ride with John DeWeerd, Tim Miedona, Eric Anderson, and Bob Hunt. We were in the middle of them. We all laughed at each other and splashed each other. At the end of the ride as we got out, John DeWeerd looked at me and smiled.

Mr. Hesling made his comment that we looked like drenched rats.

Also, I had ice cream with Matthew and Brooke Bordner. I kept telling Matthew not to go live with his dad because in reality, Zig would be drunk a lot and not fun like he was on the weekends.

Took Matthew up to Hillside Drive and rode our bikes up and down the hills. It was fun flying down those hills. As we went by Chris Papp’s house, we saw him, Jeremy Redenius, and Chris Altman playing basketball outside.

May 9 1993: Mother’s Day—Another Beautiful Day

We went to 11:30 mass. At 1:30, Charlene, Kelsey, Grandpa, and Grandma Thomas came over for dinner. We had potatoes, chicken cordon bleu, peas, bread, jello, and strawberry cake for dessert.

Charlene and Steve were going to San Francisco next weekend. Kelsey had 2 jobs: making pizzas and working in a restaurant. Charlene and Kelsey were renting that cabin on the lake around July 17th.

I had to go to work at 3 p.m. George, Marianne, Kim, Wendy, and Joy were walking in the parking lot. They came into the store to see me. They came in the break room and we had a nice visit.  Jo Lawver’s mom had her hip replacement surgery 2 weeks ago.

May 8, 1993: Sunny and 84 degrees

I went to visit Anne Ruthkowski. Also, I went to Grandma and Grandpa Gonyo’s house. Grandma went to pick up Pauline, so I visited with Grandpa. Grandpa told me that his first job was in a supermarket.

Grandma came home and started to cry because she felt bad that she couldn’t bring Clara home, too, with Pauline. I felt so bad for her. The Gonyo’s were coming to Muskegon tomorrow.

I washed my car and took a bike ride. It was really busy at work today. I didn’t get out until 9:25 p.m. A customer who came in after the deli closed was so happy when I waited on her. She kept thanking me. She asked my name and said she’d tell the manager what a great help I was. I felt so happy.

May 7, 1993: Different Day at School

I got Chris Papp to sign my memory book. In marketing, Jake Messinger worked on his project called Goals and named his title goals. Well, we put our projects on the same disk. Little did I know that I named my project Goals and erased Jake's project by mistake.  He was so pissed and had a hissyfit the last 10-15 minutes of class. Amber Chumley tried to tell him that is was just an accident and that Amy didn’t mean it.
Keith Bolema was about ready to strangle Jake. Keith signed my memory book with‘gooneygoogoo’ which was his favorite saying.

Keith wanted to play baseball in college.

After school, I got my paycheck and then cruised to Silver Lake.

I went over to Sue’s house.  We took Ashley went on her first ride in her stroller. We walked by Chris Papp’s house. On the way back, we got a slurpee.

Took Sue and Ashley to see Cate at St. Francis de Sales. On our way home, we noticed the car that belonged to Chris Labelle’s friend in the driveway. Sue said ‘Let’s not go home’. I think she realized what a jerk he was, but wouldn't admit it.

I got her a $15 certificate for my mom for Mother’s Day at JCPenney’s.

May 6, 1993: My Work was Done

It was busy again in the deli. My manager, Christine wrote me a note saying that Anita Hasper ordered the gloves and they would be in next week. I am glad I complained.

I wrote for the Sailor’s Log Newspaper and interviewed Chris Papp for ‘Sailor’s Speak Out’. I asked him if I could record the interview so I wouldn’t forget something that was said. Actually, I just wanted to record his sexy voice and listen to it over and over. Isn’t that funny?

May 5, 1993: Sue's Grandmother

I found out that Sue’s grandma was very ill with cancer. I visited with Sue and Ashley. Also, I took a bike ride with Matthew, Alex (Matthew’s friend), and Kim Daugherty. Also, played kickball with Matthew and Alex. I took a bike ride with Kim by Chris Papp’s house. The hills were great for riding down. I felt like I was going 100 mph.

May 4, 1993: Community Foundation Scholarship Interview

Mr. Hesling said he had confidence in me. That made me happy. I visited Sue today. She stayed home from school today because Ashley woke up a lot last night and Sue was tired. Sue missed the cadaver trip which would’ve been interesting.

I went to Jim Lemieux’s wife’s restaurant (Main Street at the old site of Prickley Pear on Ruddiman Road in North Muskegon). Today was Grandpa and Grandma’s 46th Wedding Anniversary.

I met Mrs. Lemieux. She had dark hair and blue eyes. The food was ok, but nothing spectacular.

I went to Sue’s house to bring her to the Beardsley building for our scholarship interviews.

Sue took Ashley to Anna Jacobson’s house to be babysat by Mrs. Jacobs.

The interview was hilarious. Brett Cutler came dressed in a full suit, executive pad, and an umbrella. We almost fell down laughing.

The interview was on the 3rd floor. Talked with Brandy Outwin. I met a guy from Reeth’s Puffer named Eric. He was going to Alma College. He was majoring in Pre-med. He wanted to go into radiology. He was cute, funny, and probably would be rich someday. I think I should have taken him home. He worked at Mr. Quicks and was looking for another job. He was ashamed to work at Mr. Quicks. Gee, I wonder why.

He thought my job at Plumb’s in the deli sounded fun. He was trying to get a job at Rafferty’s. He worked with the Mona Shores Alumni, Markelle Fox. He had already received $7,000 in scholarships.

Nathan Adams, Heather Mell, Michelle Lehan, and Saskia Doctor were also at the interview. I left like a dummy next to them.

I came home and wrote a thank you note to the people who interviewed me.  Sue did well at her interview too.  I saw Molly Piersma and Sarah Meisch there, too.

May 3, 1993: Sue's Welcome Back

I took a walk around to see what expressions people would give Sue with her fresh new haircut and weight back down to 95 pounds and fitting into jeans.

Just before Spanish class, Sue and I went to the bathroom. Chris Papp walked by us and gave a darling smile at me. Gee, I wonder why. Sue and I went in the bathroom and laughed.

Sue liked the letter I wrote her and thought it was very sweet.

Sue also said on our way out of Spanish that her sister suggested that I be Ashley’s godmother. They still have to talk it over with Sue’s parents, but I’d be honored. I guess whenever Sue’s sister talks about me to Ashley, she calls me “Auntie Amy.”
