I was quite excited when I read in the local newspaper that the actor, John C. Reilly, best known in the movies "Chicago", "Gangs of New York", Talledega Nights", and "Stepbrothers", was going to perform in his band at a local church. He is in a band that is called John Reilly & Friends, which travels all over the country and world. The only girl in the band, Becky Stark, decided to come to Muskegon to perform at her mother's church called Unity of Muskegon on Bourdon street in Lakeside.
The church would be able to hold around 200 people for this free concert. My friend Sue, her friend Brian Smith, my mom, neighbor Kay, and I went to the event. Sue got there early after work and was second in line.
The kind of music they performed was classic American folk, bluegrass and roots music.
I enjoyed the music very much. They performed for about 2 hours.
After the concert, the church had some refreshments in the lower level. Then, outside in the back of the church, we could have our picture taken with John Reilly which was pretty cool. My mom asked John where he grew up. He was born in the southside of Chicago and started performing at around 8 years old. He was very nice to everyone there.
