April 30, 1993: Chris Papp

Today, our hours at school were switched around. For example, we went to 6th hour first, then 5th hour second, etc.  After 3rd hour, I went to Chris Papp’s locker and asked him to the prom.   His face just lit up.   It was so cute.   Even though I knew that he wasn’t going and didn’t really like proms, I still asked. He told me the same thing , but also said bye and I’ll see you in the halls. I can’t believe I did that.

After school, I took Andrea Erwin and Jenny Krbez home. Then, I took Kara over to get her car. I went to work to pick up my paycheck. I got a note from Christina Merrill saying we are supposed to clean the slicer at 8:30 p.m. I told Shellie that and she was surprised since we have always done it at 8 p.m. I gave Shellie $3 for her bowlathon for Special Olympics. I went to Sue's house. I fed Ashley and burped her.

Chris Labelle and his friend came over. Sue and I talked a lot about Chris Papp. I told her about my asking Chris to the prom. She laughed.

I had dinner at Paesanos with mom. A nice lady eating near us gave us a coupon good for a free pizza when you buy 1. That was nice of her. We went grocery shopping at Meijer and I saw Erin Mullally.

I went to Frosty Oasis and got 2 regular peanut butter cup sundaes for Sue and I. I saw Mr. and Mrs. Piersma there. Mr. Keur was there, too. I got to Sue’s house. Her sister was on the phone.

I had a nice talk with Sue for 2 hours.  We talked about everything.

April 28, 1993: Molly Piersema's Birthday

Molly was 18 today. Sue came home from the hospital. Jennifer Geiger visited Sue and bought her a rose and for the baby, she brought a blanket her grandma made. That was really nice of her. Jennifer and Sue were enemies from 9th grade until Sue was pregnant. I’m glad Jennifer was nicer.

I visited Grandma Gonyo. I talked a lot about things in this world. We had cake and hot cocoa. I got caught up on our soap opera the “Young and the Restless”. I had a great visit.

Matthew came over. We had popcorn and Barq’s rootbeer. I watched Tim Allen on “Home Improvement.”

April 27, 1993: Sue's Baby

Sue Arnouts had her baby today. Ashley was born at 6:30 a.m. Ashley was 6 lbs. 9 oz and 19 inches long. Sue got to the hospital at 5 a.m. She started having contractions around 2-2:30 a.m. She even went to school yesterday and played Nintendo while having contractions.

During Spanish 3, Mrs. Potter let Matt Johnson and I visited Sue at the hospital. She was in room 215 at Hackley Hospital. Her little girl was precious. Right now, she had blue eyes and dark hair.

I got to hold Ashley.  Sue seemed to be doing fine.

Sue said childbirth wasn't that bad, but don’t get me wrong, there was a lot of pain. She had to be stitched up.

I went back to school.  After school, I came back to the hospital.  I got to hold Ashley.  She was so little.  She said you start your period as soon as you have the baby.

I visited Sue from 3-8:30 p.m. Chris Labelle came to the hospital. He seemed so proud.

When Matt Johnson came and held Ashley, Chris seemed to get real jealous.

Other visitors were Jennifer Krbez, Molly Piersema, Meghan Piersema, Nathan Wright, Ann Tyler and her mom.

Sue told everyone that I have been real supportive through all of this. I was so happy.

April 24, 1993: Earth Day

I got my hair colored. Also, I went to a movie called “This Poor Boy.” I went to Earth Day, but it was boring to me. Chris Labelle, Paul Vandusen, and Nick Silvis played in their band. I didn’t like it at all. I liked watching Mike Council and Jason Gibner dancing weird to it.

I wrote on my Earth Day story. I had to go to the play again. Tim Miedona, Julie Bailey, Eric Anderson, John DeWeerd, Mrs. Potter, Julie Courim, and Janna Wilson were some of the people who came.

April 23, 1993: Players Drama Club

Sue helped pass out programs and take count of the people at the play. She seemed quite happy to get out and help. She said I would be real good with kids because I actually played with them and they liked that.

I told her I liked kids because they weren't afraid to do things wrong.

During intermission, Sarah Groh and Julie Courim came to talk to us. Sarah was so excited for Sue. Sarah said that Tania Smith had gained 34 pounds and looked like she had three chins. Tania will name her boy Denton or her girl, Courtney Marie. Sarah said she couldn't wait to have kids. She went in the baby stores to look at the clothes. Chris Papp kept staring our way.

Sue said she really liked the play. After the play, we went on stage to congratulate everyone.

April 22, 1993: Central Michigan University

There was no school today as the teachers had a meeting. Kara and I drove up to Mount Pleasant to see Wendy Gonyo. Wendy introduced us to her friends, Sarah and Dawn and to her boyfriend, Sean.

Wendy drove my car to the police station to get a permit to park. We had lunch at Subway. Wendy took us to the bookstore and for ice cream. We also went to an Earth Day celebration.

We went back to Wendy’s dorm. Sean was there. A big bug on the floor scared him.

We watched “General Hospital”. We left at 3:30 because I had to get back to the play.

On our trip, Kara and I talked a lot. Kara said it was dumb to drink to get drunk. She said in Russia if you got drunk, you would get no respect. They don’t respect you when you do that.

Wendy showed us all of the fraternity parties she had attended.

At 7 p.m., I went to South Shores to help out with the crowds for the play, “The Foreigner”. That play was very funny.

April 21, 1993: Paul Patterson

Today was a gorgeous day outside. Matthew called and he came over after I watched “Young and the Restless”. We had a Barq’s rootbeer and belched. I called Sue Arnouts to show how loud the belches could be. Yes, I am a kid at heart.

Mathew and I played hopscotch. Paul Patterson delivered the Examiners. We walked with him the rest of Lawnel and then Columbus streets. We found 3 cans in the bushes at Mr. Crabb’s house. Paul pushed me in the bush as I was trying to get them out. Boy, did I run after him! Paul was going to Tennessee for 4 days.

I ran home and Matthew and I had pizza. Matthew came with my mom and me to AAA for an open house. Boy, was that boring. I washed both cars.

Kim Zimmer and her son, Nathan, came over out of the clear blue sky. Nathan was a little hound. He just started fighting with Matthew for no reason. He even slammed Matthew right up against the wall. I told Nathan off. He just talked back. He pounded on our side door. Kim didn't even care.

Anyhow, Mom and Kim were discussing catering for my open house. Matthew and I watched “Home Improvement”.

At 9:30, I wrote my Student of the Month story. It came to about 600 words. I did my egg drop but it didn’t work and made the biggest splat. Everyone got a kick out of mine.

April 20, 1993: Student of the Month Interviews

I got my interviews of Tamra Talmadge and Michelle Lehan.  Michelle Lehan said “Always keep a sense of humor and think positively.” That’s real uplifting.
After quitting band, I decided to join the newspaper staff, which I enjoyed.   I loved writing and hearing the latest gossip, so this was the perfect fit for me in my Senior Year of high school.    The name of the newspaper was "Sailor's Log."

April 18, 1993: Sue's Baby Shower

I went to 11:30 a.m. mass.   Father Stasker said hello.  I saw Dawn David and Erin Mullally too.  At 12:30, I went to Sue Arnouts’s house at 1918 Reneer.  Sue’s baby shower was from 1-4 p.m.   I met some of her relatives and also Chris Labelle’s grandma and stepmother, Unis.  They got Sue a stroller.  Sue liked the play pen.  Molly Piersma, Ann Tyler, Meghan Piersma, Kara, and Anna Jacobson were some of the kids who attended the party.  We ate and played games such as measure mommy.  Each person took a certain amount of toilet paper (unaware of the game) and then were told to wrap it around the mom to see who was the closest.  Ann Tyler won that game.

April 17, 1993: "Players" Rehearsal

I went to Witmark and saw Mr. Walker there. I bought a Panasonic cassette recorder with radio. I came home and went to South Shores to work on the set. After I quit band, I decided to try some other activities, so got involved with the drama club, "Players".     I didn't do any acting, but helped with the construction of the sets.    I laid carpet, painted, etc.   I felt guilty since I hadn’t been able to come lately.  I sponged all of the wood work with dark grey paint. I got the paint at Meijers with Jennifer Krbez. Mr. Payment was in a good mood today. He brought his dog to practice. The dog’s name was Bo.

I came home after eating pizza and finished up on the painting. Sue called and I bought the prizes over to have her sister, Chris, wrap them. Saw some more of Sue’s gifts.

April 14, 1993: Sue's Baby Shower Gift

I talked to Grandma Gonyo on the phone for 45 minutes. Told her about the Gonyos, Lawvers, and Heather. Told her that I was taking golf lessons. She said that she wished she learned that because a lot of ladies golfed in Florida and love it. It was so nice to hear her voice and to know that she was back in Muskegon. After I got off the phone, I picked up Ann Tyler to go to Witmark and looked for a baby shower gift.

We saw Mr. Walker there. Ann and I decided that we should get the play pen. I think it’ll match the baby room. It was on sale for $93. Ann told me about Nick Infante.  She liked him.  I got to see her house and meet her sister, Molly.  Played with Matthew and Brooke.  Watched Home Improvement.

April 10,1993: Gonyo Clan's Visit

On April 10, 1993, Joy and I went to the Cinema to see “Jack the Bear”. It was a very sad story, but good. We drove to Grand Haven to see the shoreline and showed Joy where the Lawvers swam and where they launched their boat off in Spring Lake.

We went to the Holiday Inn in downtown Muskegon to see if Marianne, George and Wendy arrived. They did, but were not in their room.

I had to go into work at Plumbs. Cindy and I both worked. It was darn right slow and we were so bored. George, Marianne, Joy and Wendy came to the deli to see me. Marianne liked herring in cream sauce.

Cindy and I gossiped until she left at 8. I went to the hotel at 9 to go swimming. Wendy was waiting for me.  She said she was now dating Sam from Central Michigan University.

Met Kim at 7-Eleven. She took Seminole Rd.  She got to our house about 1:15 a.m and spent the night.

April 7, 1993: Ann Arbor Visit

On April 7, 1993, I got directions from Marianne to take Joy and I to Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi. We made it there. We had lunch at Burger King. Joy found a dress for Easter that looked similar to mine.

We stopped by the Lawvers house. Adam answered the door. He was real happy to see us. We came in and talked to Jo who was painting the bathroom next to the kitchen. Adam was glad that Kim and Colin broke up. Heather Klee was coming back in May to live here and go to graduate school. Adam took us outside to the bird pen to see two new baby birds and their flock.

We came back in and sat in the living room and talked with Jo. They were planning on coming to my graduation open house. Jase came home with Jo’s brother, Scott, who became handicapped from a bee sting. Jase brought us a glass of 7-up in their new blue glasses. Their kitchen was full of dirty dishes.

Took Adam, Jase, and Joy in my ’83 Skyhawk to Jo’s mom’s (Jane Brecker) house. We took US 23 North to I94 West towards Chicago and got off at Zeeb Road which we missed. Jase said that he has missed Zeeb Road a lot too.

We went by Joy’s high school in Dexter. Jase got us back on track with some mistakes. He said “Turn left, dear!” We got to 3810 Greenock where Jo’s mom lives. It was a brown house with a brown garage that looked like ours. Met Jase’s grandmother.

We talked with Jase and his grandmother. We were given directions home. Adam and Jase were going to rake leaves. Jase’s name was Jase Wilber Lawver. Isn’t that funny! I said my thank you’s and goodbyes. I’ve gotta marry Jase!

We got home on Joy Road to Earhart. I must’ve missed one of the roads that Mrs. Brecker told us to take, but got home. Joy Rd. was gravel and so damn bumpy.

We went to a Seder Meal---Passover with Kim, Joy, and George. I had matzah, herbs, horseradish, and 4 cups of wine. The pamphlet explained everything about the meal.

We had a delicious potluck. I met Carrie, Tony, and Paul that went to their church.

On my way home, Kim put a song in her tape deck called “I’m an Asshole”.   We watched Beverly Hills 90210 and Home Improvement.

April 1993: Pauline Kimball's Men Advice

On April 4, 1993, I visited Pauline.  She made us laugh again about her advice about men. She said “Stay single, don’t trust any of those men.”
We always got a kick out of her advice on men.  She said she wanted to approve of any man that I met.   She was married and divorced three times over her lifetime, so she had alot of experience dealing with them.  She seemed to remember a lot today.  I love her so much!!  She couldn't wait to see her sister Marge Gonyo (my grandmother).  Pauline waved bye to us as we left Hillcrest in North Muskegon.

Pauline was my Grandma Gonyo's sister.   She had the most gorgeous red, wavy hair.      I remember my mom saying that Pauline could pack a carry on bag with enough clothes for a week and always looked wonderful.     She based her colors around 1 or 2 colors.

Friday, April 2, 1993

On April 2, 1993, I caught Chris Papp eating meat on a Friday during Lent. He was speechless, but changed the subject by saying that Russ Gallas told his confirmation class about me and my mom becoming Catholics recently. That’s great that he listened and acknowledged it.

Matt Johnson and I were trying to help Sue Arnouts pick out boy names for the baby.

Keith Bolema talked to me about salaries and what college I was going to attend.  He said “I should try for U of M to see if I could make it.  Sometimes I wondered if he likesdme by the things he said.

I went out to dinner at Rafferty’s (Downtown Muskegon) with mom.  Both of us had a great perch dinner.  I didn’t feel myself because I wasn’t feeling good, but the dinner was great.
