September 1984: 4th Grade

My favorite teacher in elementary was Mrs. VanCamp.  She taught 4th grade.   She always dressed so modern and had fun activities for us to do.   I will always remember her for her contests with the multiplication tables.  When we learned certain multiplication tables and did the best in class, she would reward the top students with lunch at McDonalds. I went several times with Mrs. VanCamp to McDonalds and thought that was such a treat.

When my father passed away, she let the students know what was going on and was a good source of support for me.  I am so thankful that I had her for my teacher.

Summer 1984: Chicago

My Mom and Dad took me to Chicago in 1984. I had never been to a big city before, so it was pretty neat driving along Lakeshore Drive. The traffic was bad. I think it made my dad nervous driving around the city.

Little did I know in 1984 that I would eventually be living in Chicago as an adult.
